Injured New York City Construction Worker Settles Construction Accident Case for $25 Million after Accidental Fall, Fake Safety Logs

Over six years ago, in May, 2018, New York City construction worker Abbos Abbosov was working on a roof project at a Brooklyn Amazon warehouse when tragedy struck. Abbosov fell through a hole that was in the roof, plunging to the ground where he landed on his head, seriously injuring himself, and requiring repeated hospitalizations to treat the head injury. Abbosov and the construction crew had been removing asbestos from the Amazon warehouse worksite, which was located on Cozine Avenue in East New York City.

As a result of his head injuries from the worksite fall, Abbosov was left permanently impaired and unable to work, and brought a lawsuit for compensation against several parties involved in the accident, including the demolition contractor, Bordone Construction. Through the course of the lawsuit, Bordone was found to have submitted faked safety logs showing the signature of a supervisor who later stated that she did not sign them and was not part of the demolition work performed at the site. The case was ultimately settled in March of this year, but the amount that Abbosov recovered was not readily available, as the monetary amounts were redacted from court filings. Then, this summer in August, unredacted versions of the settlement filings were filed, showing the total amount of the settlement. According to the papers, Abbosov walked away with $22 million as a result of his workplace injury, and his wife, Albina Abbosova, was paid an additional $3 million for her claims. The settlement money will be paid out by the multiple defendants as divided-up in the settlement papers, including Bordone Construction, the asbestos removal firm that employed Abbosov for the job, an engineering firm that was involved, and the company that owns the warehouse and warehouse property. The case serves as an example of just one of the many serious construction accidents that happen in New York City, and what victims of serious construction accidents can do about it to get justice after they are injured. We know how to handle cases just like this one, so if you, or a loved one, fell at a construction site, call us today.
